Lent, Day 12: REMEMBER

Scripture:  Psalm 105:1-11, 37

Focus on the Word

Christians are a singing, praising, thanking, witnessing, worshipping, seeking, and remembering people.  They are born into the very life of God through Jesus Christ and the relationship they have with God is the one dynamic reality that guides, directs, and sustains their lives.

Of God, the psalmist challenges the worshippers to “Seek His face continually” (Psalm 105:4, NASB).  Looking into God’s eyes in worship, we remember God’s “wonders” and we remember that God remembers His covenant forever (Psalm 105:5, 7, NASB).

Once upon a time God made a promise and He has not forgotten.  He remembers.  He keeps His Word.  He is faithful through and through.  “He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth” (Psalm 105:7, NASB).

In our remembering we are commissioned to give thanks to God, to call upon His name, to make known His deeds, to sing praises to Him, to speak of all His wonders.  When we think and meditate and remember we are invited into the place of gladness where all it means for God to be God embraces us.

In Lent we REMEMBER.  We quiet our lives before God, come into His presence, and remember some things.  We remember to whom we belong.  We remember that He is God.  We remember that He is faithful.  We remember that He is our “strength” (Psalm 105:4, NASB).   We remember we are not alone. We remember that we aren’t in a business arrangement with God, but in a vital, vigorous and dynamic relationship with the God who remembers His covenant forever.

Today’s Prayer

O Lord Jesus Christ, open the eyes of my heart, that I may hear Your word and understand and do Your will, for I am a sojourner upon the earth. Hide not Your commandments from me, but open my eyes, that I may perceive the wonders of Your law. Speak unto me the hidden and secret things of Your wisdom. On You do I set my hope, O my God, that You shall enlighten my mind and understanding with the light of Your knowledge, not only to cherish those things which are written, but to do them… For You are the enlightenment of those who lie in darkness, and from You comes every good deed and every gift.   Amen.   -- John Chrysostom (347-407)
